I am so excited to launch this website, and truly have fun helping people do things that they love! I’m particularly pumped to write “Tim’s Tangent’s” posts. Within the “tangent” may be the occasional “rant”, but my hope is it all ties together for the greater good of my overall message.
Learning online is tough. There is so much information out there, it’s hard to decipher what is legit or not. I had a very fortunate break early on, when I was referred to some successful online entrepreneurs via a Tony Robbins audio series. I still follow most of those people to this day. But if I did not acquire that knowledge, I’m not sure who I would have turned to for my “online mentorship”.
There are many business people out there who provide MASSIVE value, unfortunately a small group tends to give the industry a bad name. I count myself fortunate that I have only purchased quality products along the way on my quest to be savvy online.
- consistently show pictures of fast cars, mansions and other toys to validate that their “systems” work
- mislead with tactics that would regularly be deemed “tricks”
- are purely transactional, and once you buy, poof – they disappear in to thin air
- launch into sale pitches on social media when they have barely said, “hello”
- play with numbers. My favourite scenario – “make $29.856.45 in the next 27.25 days”
- sell products that are quite frankly … crap!
- rarely interact with their online communities, and consistently broadcast
- promote helping you get X number of followers. Spoiler Alert ** Quality over quantity does not normally hold true online
You get the idea.
But I reiterate, the good certainly outweighs the bad online and that is what I have always focused on while searching for information. It’s not always easy, but you have to keep “digging“.
It really is like panning for gold. You have to sift through a lot of stuff, to find those nuggets that can help you. I will certainly be referring to some of my favourite people to follow as my content develops.
I truly hope that I can be a “nugget of gold” for you. I know how much I struggled with information overload, feelings of overwhelm and discouragement during this journey. I almost packed it in because I did not think that I could pull of turning what I knew in to a business.
But if there is anything that I learned and hold true to every day, is that you have to put in the work. You have to get known online (and offline depending what your business is). You need to connect with quality individuals – not just anyone to inflate some silly social media statistics. Meet people that you could help in the future, who could possibly return the favour some day. I go to bed every night knowing that I work each and every day to build an incredible network of people around me.
In general people have to know who you are. A business can thrive while being “faceless and nameless”, but generally speaking, it’s sure nice to know the person (or people) behind the products or services that someone is considering buying. Personal branding has many definitions. Heck many people openly say that personal branding is not even a thing
My favourite definition of personal branding simply discusses how you differentiate yourself.
That’s it! How are you different?
It’s a busy busy place on the internet, and more than likely what you are doing, or planning to do has been done before.
But how will you put your spin on it, and attract people who want to learn from you?
That is the million dollar question that you will eventually need to answer.
I know, sounds tough, but I will help you build that foundation of knowledge, how to create that brand that everyone recognizes and comes to love. And oh yeah, help you become that person others want to connect with.
I want to be one of the “gold nuggets” that you select as you “pan for your online gold“. It’s gonna be a lot of fun, and the rewards will be directly proportional to your efforts. My experiences helped me learn to simplify everything that I teach and write about. Everything can be expanded on. But if you do the basics well, you can “rinse and repeat“, and scale over time as much as you want.
Good luck as you start, or continue your online journey. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
I love connecting on social media. You can find me here:
